Excuse the cringey title but I’ve already used a missing in action title when I took a wee break from blogging, however, this time it really wasn’t meant but life just got in the way! So, I’ll give you a quick rundown of what’s happened in the last *cough* three months.
My Nephews third birthday – Sometimes seeing your friends kids growing up makes you feel older than watching your own kids growing up. Kayden turned a big 3 in April. I can remember not so patiently waiting for that text to say he had arrived. I was also so impatient to meet him, I think I was their first visitor in the hospital. Well, it’s not every day your best friend has a baby. Happy belated birthday on my blog Kayden, you go into the “big room” in the nursery this week so you’re officially a big boy!
Family from Canada – We had Michael’s younger sister and her boyfriend visiting from Canada in the Spring which was lovely. They had a huge Scottish tour booked as well as visiting us for a few days so we didn’t get to spend loads of time with them but it was still lovely to show them around. I even had my first visit to Ashton Lane in Glasgow for cocktails. I think I’ll have to go back purely to do a blog post on it (plus it made me feel young and cool, drinking in the west end).
Shannon’s 16th Birthday! – Yes, we have a 16-year-old and, to be honest, a lot of my missing time was spent organising the big day. We eventually settled for a hot tub party and two parties, one for the old folks and one for her friends. Both couldn’t have gone any better and the birthday celebrations only ended last week with her main present of a trip to the Harry Potter studios in London. I had planned a big slushy blog post on my baby girl turning 16 but I guess in the madness of it all, it’s a bit late now. I’ll just post lots of pictures to make up for it.
A romantic getaway – If you can count an overnight to Dumfries and Galloway as a romantic getaway that is. The week before Shannon’s birthday, hubby and I slipped away for an overnight as we wanted to visit the Red Deer centre. We stayed in the nicest accommodation ever though so I do have a blog post to go up about that too. We don’t get away much ourselves so it was a treat and somewhere we’ll be making a return visit too. Sneak peek…
Take That Concert – Me and my besties got to see Take That at the Hydro and they were fab as always. It wasn’t my favourite tour, I have to admit, but they were still amazing and we had great views for being standing. Usually, I’m too short to see much but this time was a great set up. I best mention my friend Frankie getting a hug from Howard too or he’ll never forgive me.
Howard, if you ever read my blog (LOL), you made this boys year!
Exams – Shannon was sitting her higher exams in her birthday month too so that’s them out of the way and she is now into her final year of school, how did that happen? Feels like only yesterday I was buying her first nursery polo shirt and now she’s into her final year of school. Now is the waiting game for results.
Awards – What’s the point in having a blog if you can’t boast about your amazing children? Katie got an endeavour award for her first year at high school and Shannon won the art award! We’re so proud of them both. I’ll be a bawling wreck at the prize giving assembly. Katie’s had a tough year settling in too, so for it not to affect her class work is such an achievement #proud!
London – As I said earlier, Shannon’s main birthday present was Harry Potter tour tickets. We booked them in advance as the tours sell out super fast. We had three nights accommodation booked for Luton and a trip to London on the Wednesday was planned. Then the terror attacks happened and I had the biggest of freak outs. It just felt too close for comfort, I was assured by my GP that I wasn’t the only one panicking about it but I still felt stupid for letting it get to me so much. The Manchester attack was so, so brutal. Targeting kids and their parents after such a happy experience for them is just sickening and we’ve been in the position of waiting on Shannon coming out of a gig on multiple occasions, I watched the news for three days solid ( that didn’t help the anxiety). I know it shouldn’t stop us going about our daily business but I definitely need to work on getting over the fear of these things. I really don’t know how all this will end.
Anyway! We ended up going to Brighton instead of the city centre and had a lovely day. It was super windy but it stayed dry. We’ve made a promise to ourselves to come back for a Monday to Friday break in Brighton as it just has a lovely feel to it, it’s our kind of place.
Think that’s me all caught up, it’s been a hectic Spring. Summer is definitely going to be less busy. I promise I won’t vanish again!
