Bothwell Scarecrow Festival is on from 3rd September – 11th September. I really love this community event and I think it is such an imaginative way to get a village ( & Neighbours!) all working together.
The festival, organised by a local group of volunteers, has been running since 2011. It has now turned into a week of brilliant activities, I am particularly looking forward to the Farmers Market and the Tunnocks Teacake eating competition! If you are local then I recommend having a look at their website, where all the activities for the next week can be found: www.bothwellscarecrowfestival.co.uk
If you have a look along the Main Street, most of the businesses have their scarecrows themed to the nature of their shop, my favourites this year has to be the Great British Bake off theme in Humble Pie’s Bakery and the injured superheroes outside the Physiotherapy Clinic, I laughed far too loudly at this one.
The best way to see the scarecrows is parking your car and going for a wander, make sure you go down the little side streets as some of the best entries are off the Main Street.
This year was the first I have noticed that the neighbours in some streets have got together and came up with a theme for their entire street, I love that! The Ghostbusters theme wins it for me.
Huge well done goes to the organisers of this event, pulling off a week’s worth of different competitions and shows is no easy feat. It is also worth mentioning that any excess profits are donated to Glasgow Children’s Charities, judging by how busy it was today on the first day of the festival, they will have a busy week and hopefully, raise a good amount.
I look forward to creating an entry for next year for our local charity, Viewpark Conservation Group. I’m sure the entire group will have great fun with this. Better get the thinking caps on!
